Defensible Space Design
We plan layered defensible space zones using non-combustible materials, thoughtful plant spacing, access considerations, and WUI-aware site strategies that reduce fuel near the home.
Protect your Los Angeles property with defensible space landscaping that reduces wildfire fuel, supports safer access, and complements resilient rebuilding. tect helps homeowners in high-risk WUI areas, including Pacific Palisades, plan fire-conscious planting, hardscape zones, and site strategies that align with today’s insurance and long-term home performance realities.

Site-smart wildfire landscaping strategies for safer, more resilient homes in Los Angeles WUI communities.
We plan layered defensible space zones using non-combustible materials, thoughtful plant spacing, access considerations, and WUI-aware site strategies that reduce fuel near the home.
Our team helps identify lower-fuel plants, resilient ground covers, and irrigated landscape layouts suited to Southern California’s dry seasons and wildfire exposure.
We coordinate landscape planning with on-site water supply and fire-suppression concepts, helping the site work as part of a larger home resilience strategy.

We review the home’s slope, vegetation, access points, neighboring fuel loads, and WUI exposure. In Los Angeles hillside areas, this early assessment helps prioritize the zones that matter most for wildfire risk reduction.

Non-combustible ground cover is usually the safest choice closest to the home. Gravel, decomposed granite, stone, pavers, and bare mineral soil are preferred within immediate defensible space zones because they do not add fuel. Some low-growing, well-irrigated plants may be appropriate farther out, but they must be maintained, spaced, and kept free of dry leaf litter.
